The mission
The relatively stagnant number of organ donors in Quebec is not proportional to the everincreasing number of patients waiting for a kidney transplant. In order to remedy this situation, the Quebec Branch of The Kidney Foundation of Canada is committed to assuming a leadership role in the field of organ and tissue donation by establishing a Provincial Committee in charge of promoting organ and tissue donation. This project is made possible thanks to the financial participation of Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., Fujisawa Canada and CN Employees' and Pensioners' Community Fund.
The Organ and Tissue Donation Committee's main objective is to improve the organ and tissue donation system in order to increase the number of transplantations in Quebec. Its mandate is to promote public awareness as well as that of health professionals and the government to the importance of organ donation. The committee works in co-operation with the government (more particularly with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec), hospitals, health professionals, as well as with organizations and individuals concerned with organ donation.
